Belle Heart Coaster Free Crochet Pattern

I needed a quick gift for a housewarming this weekend and I was able to get these finished in only one evening. I used Drops Belle cotton/linen because it’s such a beautiful yarn, suitable for a variety of projects.

Crochet coaster

Materials

  • Drops Belle Unicolor (131 yds per 50g ball, 53% cotton/33% viscose/14% linen, weight: DK/size 3): Mauve and Light Beige, one ball each is enough to make a set of 8
  • Suggested hook: E-4 (3.5mm)
  • Needle (for weaving ends)

Special Stitches

Double Crochet Two Together (dc2tog): Yo, insert hook in stitch, yo, pull lp through, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook, yo, insert hook in next st, yo, pull lp through, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook, yo, pull through 3 lps on hook.

Notes

I use a ch 2 at the beginning of dc rows. If you prefer, you can use a ch 3.

Crochet Pattern Instructions

Row 1: With pink, ch 3, 4 dc in third ch from hook, turn.

Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as dc here and throughout), dc in same dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in top of beg ch-3, turn: 8 dc.

Row 3: Ch 2, dc in same dc, dc in each of next 6 dc, 2 dc in last dc, turn: 10 dc.

Row 4: Ch 2, dc in same dc, dc in each of next 3 dc, 2 dc in each of next 2 dc, dc in each of next 3 dc, 2 dc in last dc, turn: 14 dc.

Row 5: Ch 2, sk first dc, dc in each of next 6 dc, ch 1, dc in each of rem 7 dc, turn: 14 dc with ch-1 sp in center.

Row 6: Ch 1, sk first dc, [dc2tog (see Special Stitches above) across next 2 dc, dc in next dc] twice, ch 5, sk ch-1 sp, dc in next dc, [dc in next dc, dc2tog across next 2 dc] twice, with beige, sl st in last dc, do not turn, cut off pink.

Begin working in the round, around the outer edge of the heart.

Round 7: Now with beige, ch 1, sc in same st, ch 5, sc to top lp of dc of row 4, ch 5, sc to top lp of dc of row 2, ch 7, sc in bottom point of heart, ch 7, sc to top lp of dc of row 2, ch 5, sc to top lp of dc of row 4, ch 5, sc to beg ch-1 of row 6, ch 3, sc in second dc2tog of first top row of heart, ch 5, sc in ch-5 sp, ch 5, sc in first dc2tog of second top row of heart, ch 3, sl st to first sc.

Round 8: Sl st into ch-5 sp, ch 1, 5 sc in same ch-5 sp, 5 sc in next ch-5 sp, [8 sc in next ch-7 sp] twice, [5 sc in next ch-5 sp] twice, 5 sc in next ch-3 sp, [6 sc in next ch-5 sp] twice, 5 sc in last ch-5 sp, sl st to first sc: 10 groups with total of 58 sc.

Round 9: Ch 2, dc in same sc, dc in each of next sc in same group, *2 dc in first sc of next group, dc in each of next sc in same group, rep from * around, with pink, sl st in first dc, cut off beige: 68 dc.

Work the next round very loosely. If you experience cupping, use a larger hook.

Round 10: Now with pink, sl st in back loops only of each dc, cut off and pull strand through, with yarn needle, pull yarn from back to front under both lps of first sl st, then pull yarn from front to back under both lps of last sl st. This will mimic a slip stitch and join the stitches into a circle.

Finishing

With yarn needle, weave in all ends securely. Spritz with water, as necessary, and block into shape.
