Materials

Hook: D
Southmaid Cotton 8: Small amount

Special Stitches

Decrease Double Crochet (Dec Dc): YO, insert hook in stitch, draw through. YO draw through 2 lps. YO, insert hook in next stitch, draw through. YO draw through 2 lps. YO, draw through all 3 lps on hook.

Instructions

Row 1: Ch 4. In fourth ch from hook, work 4 dc. Ch 3, turn. (5 dc, including turning ch)

Row 2: Work dc in same stitch. (1 dc in next stitch, 2 dc in next stitch) twice. Ch 3, turn. (8 dc, including turning ch)

Row 3: Work dc in same stitch. 1 dc in each of next 6 stitches. 2 dc in last stitch. Ch 3, turn. (10 dc, including turning ch)

Row 4: Work dc in same stitch. 1 dc in each of next 4 stitches. Ch 1. 1 dc in each of next 4 stitches. 2 dc in last stitch. Ch 3, turn. (12 dc, including turning ch, with ch 1 between)

Row 5: Work (Dec Dc across next two stitches) twice. 1 dc in next stitch, ch 3, sk ch-1 sp, 1 dc in next stitch. Work (Dec Dc across next two stitches) twice. 1 dc in last stitch. Ch 1, turn.

Row 6: Work sc, Dec Dc across next two stitches, sc. Ch 5, sk ch-3 sp. Sc, Dec Dc across next two stitches, sc. DO NOT TURN. The remainder of this row is worked down the side and around the heart motif. Ch 5, sc in top lp of dc of Row 4. Ch 5, sc in top lp of turning ch of Row 3. Ch 5, sc in top lp of turning ch of Row 1. Ch 5, sc in unworked lp of foundation ch. Ch 5, sc in top lp of dc of Row 1. Ch 5, sc in top lp of dc of Row 3. Ch 5, sc in top lp of turning ch of Row 4. Ch 5, sl st to beginning sc of Row 6. Ch 1.

Row 7: Work sc in same stitch. Ch 5, sk Dec Dc, sc in next stitch. Ch 5, sc in ch 5 lp. Ch 5, sk sc and Dec Dc, sc in next sc. Ch 5, sc in next ch-5 lp around. Sl st to beginning sc of Row 7. (12 ch-5 lps)

Row 8: Sl st in first ch-5 lp. Ch 3, 5 dc in same ch-5 lp. 6 dc in each ch-5 lp around. Sl st to third ch of beginning ch.

Row 9: Ch 6, * sk 2 dc, dc in next stitch, ch 3. Repeat from * around. Sl st to third ch of beginning ch.

Row 10: Sl st in first ch-3 lp. Ch 1, * 3 sc in ch-3 lp, ch 3, sl st into third ch from hook. Repeat from * around. Sl st to first sc of f. Fasten off.
